From clinic spin-off to innovative biotech company
Spin-off biotechnology company (2000)
In 2000, TETEC emerged as a spin-off biotechnology company from the Natural and Medical Sciences Institute and the Berufsgenossenschaftliche Unfallklinik Tübingen. It later became part of the biologics business of Aesculap® Inc., whose parent company is the global B. Braun Group.
Acquisition by Octane Biotherapeutics (2024)
In 2024, TETEC was acquired by Octane Biotherapeutics, part of Octane Medical Group, a multinational medical technology company with the most advanced bioprocesses, biomaterials and bioreactors for regenerative medicine.
To date, we have manufactured more than 30,000 individual products for the biological reconstruction of cartilage damage in different joints.

Modern osteoarthritis therapy
Osteoarthritis is one of the most common chronic degenerative diseases. In Germany alone, more than 400,000 artificial joints are implanted every year. Our goal is to successfully treat degenerative cartilage damage, such as occurs in osteoarthritis, in the medium term.
Biochemical and gel-based treatment
Our research has identified marker molecules that promote osteoarthritis and hinder cartilage regeneration. By combining our hydrogel’s anti-inflammatory and cartilage-protecting properties with active substances, we aim to enhance therapeutic effects and sustainably improve osteoarthritis treatment through a promising, multi-faceted approach.
Chronic-inflammatory-disease
Our expertise in osteoarthritis inflammation has led us to explore alternatives to broad immunosuppression for chronic inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. By researching the targeting of immune activation against the body’s own structures, we aim to minimize side effects and improve outcomes.
Mesenchymal stroma cells (MSC)
MSCs can suppress immune cell activity and are already used for inflammatory conditions and severe immune reactions. We are researching the combination of different MSC types with our intelligent biomaterial for local application in chronically inflamed target tissue, exploring their potential to enhance therapies for chronic-inflammatory diseases.

3D-printed tissue structure
3D bioprinting creates tissue structures with programmed geometries using biomaterials and living cells combined as bioinks and printed with a 3D printer. MRI or CT scans enable the production of customized tissue structures tailored to each patient, advancing personalized regenerative medicine.
Future tissue reconstruction
The clinical use of 3D-printed organic tissue is still far off, with industrial manufacturing hindered by a lack of standards and regulations. Together with partners from science and industry, we are part of the Association of German Engineers’ “5708 Bioprinting” committee, developing guidelines for reproducible bioink processing into 2D and 3D structures.

Our location in Reutlingen serves as the ideal base for innovative developments and international sales. Characterised by a healthy, pragmatic down-to-earth attitude, this region is situated right in the heart of Europe, 25 minutes from Stuttgart Airport by car and a 2.5-hour drive away from Zurich.
Reutlingen and the surrounding region have a strong, forward-looking scientific and research tradition. TETEC AG is part of the BioRegio STERN biotech network, which includes 120 medtech companies and 110 biotech companies. Close collaborations with the local innovation hub at the Natural and Medical Sciences Institute and the University of Tübingen are rooted in our origin story and continue to exist today.
An international network of specialised service providers and research partnerships with biotechnology institutes, universities and industrial partners round off these structures. This allows us to guarantee you an excellent sales platform and support you with professional user training and support.
